Why publish sm@rt Codes?

When you think about the information you give distributors when placing an order, you can easily see that everything begins with the information printed in your catalog. You wouldn't dream of publishing your prices in a manner inconsistent with the common industry discount codes, because the consequence would be chaotic.

The same logic applies to the way you present your company's artwork specifications. A sm@rt Code is just as important as a price. When the person preparing artwork knows what kind of artwork is needed, the chances of error are greatly reduced.

A sm@rt Code is intended to be printed on sales literature next to an item's price, photo and features. This will immediately convey the supplier's artwork requirement for that particular product and imprint process.

"Wait, that sounds too simple," you might say. Well, it is simple... and it works! The Artwork Task Force surveyed dozens of supplier companies representing nearly 30 different imprint techniques. In every case, their products' artwork requirements could be accurately defined by one or more of the new two-digit sm@rt Codes. Many suppliers will only use a few sm@rt Codes for their entire line and some will use just one for all of their products.

Whether you work for an industry member firm or not...

sm@rt Codes are for everyone's benefit. If you're a designer creating artwork for a promotional product order, an ad agency designing sales literature, a production artist or pre-press professional, your job will be made much easier by referring to the sm@rt Code that applies to your selected product. Your artwork will always be "ready".
